Project Day With Resto van Harte

simona
Our monthly Team Project for January was scheduled to take Place at the “Resto van Harte” in Schiemond on Tuesday 26th. Resto van Harte works with volunteers and twice a week offers a three course dinner for a very affordable price in order for people of the neighborhood to socialize and feel part of the community. Since the concept of Resto van Harte goes along perfectly with our Team’s Vision of creating a Culture of Service we had the Idea of helping to organize and execute one dinner event.

It's The Thought That Counts!

Ezekiel Pobanz had the main responsibility over our first own project as a team and he also came up with the idea what we could do, where and with whom. We started to organise it around two and a half weeks before the actual date it was planned to take place.

The idea was to create calendars and cards with elderly people, which they could give as gifts to their grandchildren or other people on Sinterklaas.

Monday 9th of November

A few of us from YSI Utrecht have been in contact with an elderly home in Transwijk.  We’ve had a couple of meetings with the activities manager Mikkie and Cooking an English breakfast was the first project we came up with. This was perfect for an English man such as myself.

A 450 hecta country estate belongs to the Kasteel de haar, the biggest castle in the Netherlands. It's history goes back more than 100 years ago. So it's important to the people living there, as well as the property itself, that it's kept in good shape. Since it's such a big estate, it's not surprising that it's difficult for the people to upkeep it. That's where we join the story.

A Day At The Festival

The YSI Rotterdam team spent their Halloween night not reciting lines of “trick or treat,” for the only door to door doings we partakein is the fundraising kind, we had the opportunity to assist in a festival forthe neighborhood kids of Rotterdam.

As we made our way to the grounds of the festival we immediately knew we were in the right place with the sight of red and white tents, the sound of children laughing, smell of food on the grill and a bigwelcome from the man in charge, Ed.  Ed De Meyer is a social worker from the organization Sonor and is very active in creating projects with youth.

Gone Gardening!

We have one goal: assist anyone in Utrechtthat needs help.  Since we’ve been herein Utrecht, ourpriority has been to look for different opportunities to volunteer.  So, you can imagine the excitement we feltwhen Edgar and Donna Martjn told us that The EBS Talitha School needed somerenovating.

New Volunteers!

Two groups of new YSI volunteers have arrived!
For another year,  they'll continue service work in Rotterdam and Utrecht.

Read about each of them on the blogs!
